The above chart shows scoring, using the same system as the Pax Britannica Internet Ladder, for the 34 pre-internet games I have data on from my original face-to-face playing group... Note: Keep in mind that 4 and 5 player games probably dragged these numbers up unfairly for the major four countries.

The above is something probably more relevant. I've calculated z-scores (how many standard deviations above and below the average) for placements of each and every power, based on how they've finished in all the face-to-face games. I chose this particular method as it provides a way to equalize scoring no matter how many players are in a game.
To show what a z-score really means, for the final column (the overall), I've translated the z-scores back into percentiles. Basically, if you look at all the finishes as being on a normal curve (just like being graded on a curve back in college) the average British finish is at the 58.7th percentile. And so forth...

Some quickie thoughts, if I might- many of the above games included Russia played with a 3 divisor, and Italy with a 2, so that will affect the results when compared to current internet games. I think an argument could (and perhaps should) be made for a lowered Japanese divisor as well.
